How have we coped?

Like many other parents, I roll my eyes when I see yet another blog headline about single mums. And the doom that awaits our children. Only this time, it's Covid19!

How did we do? & How did it affect you?

Thank goodness for parent blogs written by UK mums. Because they're providing us with a real insight into the families of single parents tracking the highlights and the tough times.

I can safely say lockdown was a blessing and a curse. But I feared for everyone’s safety, me being me, and my sons' wellbeing. When we first heard of Covid19 back in early 2020, it almost felt like Armageddon!! I felt worried and anxious, and never had I been scared to lose the people closest to me. My son was at the very end of the nursery stage, so it was easier to manage; I felt I had more control of the situation.

I mean, how many of us questioned it this was how it was going to end for us? …I thought about how many things my child and I weren't going to get to do! (I’m dramatising this because all this at the time felt very overwhelming) I feel like time has gone quickly, but at the same time, it dragged along slowly.

My 4-year-old son, who is now in full-time education, has become a tech zombie... sitting for hours watching lectures online. Poor kids are still so young, and it almost feels like it's too much at times. Also, attempting to complete a lesson was fun and challenging. After that, the extra worries of staying safe, shopping for necessities only, and family bubble, and all that came with Covid. It's all too emotionally challenging not being able to see your family too. I mean, if it's hard on us, can you imagine the psychological effects it has on children? I think the pandemic has taught all walks of life a teachable moment one way or another.

We’re in Lockdown 3 or 5 or what has felt like a whole of two years. (Me exhaling) The PM makes official announcements now and then, either warning us of the dangers of easing us out of lockdown, I do care about the impact it’s had on all our lives, but I also feel like I don’t want to rush out of it too. The only peace it gave me was that the whole vaccination was a blessing despite the long wait.

For all the single parents out there, Covid19 must-have has an impact, whether good or bad; please let us know your story! The more positive advice we give each other, the better we can help and impact another single parent out there.

Let us know your thoughts.
